What a great way to celebrate 30 years of F&F with the Isle of Wight Anniversary Tour. A great trip
all round with fabulous weather and some excellent shooting.
A special ‘Thank You’ to Brendan from the whole club for doing a fantastic job of arranging
everything. If there was an F&F ‘Travel Agent of the Year Trophy’ he would definitely be in with a
very good chance !! and, he certainly takes the 1st prize for filling up everyone’s email inbox !!
Friday was spent at the Bowcombe View Shooting Ground and our thanks to Dan
Bishop and the team for a great day out. A well organised shoot with some
challenging stands, especially the ‘Tower Challenge’ that a few people tried.
Saturday was spent at Bob Cooper Clay Shoot and our thanks to Bob Cooper and the
team for a great shoot with equally challenging stands and very tasty BBQ !!
A mention must go out to Legends By The Sea restaurant in Sandown for some
fantastic steaks served on (hot) Lava Rocks, and, for kindly allowing us to use the
restaurant for presenting our Trophies on Saturday evening. Compliments to all
the staff for a fantastic experience and a special thanks to the Manager for
donating some raffle prizes.
The Trophies
This year we are trying a new handicap system to ensure a fair and level playing field for the tour.
This works by taking the average of your most recent shooting i.e. the current season from
September 2014 up to and including May 2015 at Osney Lodge, and adjusting it to reflect a 300 clay
shoot. The scoring is then calculated based on how well each individual shoots above or below their
expected average giving everyone a fair chance of a trophy if they shoot well during the tour.
We have Trophies for 1
st
, 2
nd
and 3
rd
place for the Handicap Shooting plus a ‘Wooden Spoon’ for the
worst Handicapped score. In addition, we have an outright ‘High Gun’ Trophy for the best straight
shooting score and a ‘Wonky Donkey’ Trophy for the lowest straight shooting score.
Steve Carr wins the ‘High Gun’ Trophy
with a great score of 242 out of 300
Peter Plugis wins the ‘Wonky Donkey’
Trophy with a score of 119 out of 300
Straight Shooting Results
Below is the final scores for Straight Shooting. Friday was split into a morning session of 100 clays
and 50 in the afternoon. Saturday was split into 90 in the morning and 60 in the afternoon. The
breakdown of scores over both days is shown to the right. Note: George Lake was unable to shoot
on the Saturday so he was excluded from winning the coveted ‘Wonky Donkey’ Trophy.
